Condemning the murder of Dana Seetahal, SC, the Law Association has expressed its concern about crime and has called for a speedy and thorough police investigation of the killing.
Law Association president Jairam Seenath, SC, said in a statement this morning that the association was mourning the “tragic and violent” death of Seetahal, herself a former president of the Law Association, and extended its deepest condolences to her family.
Seenath added that Seetahal contributed significantly to the development of the criminal law, practice and procedure and was a distinguished senior member of the legal profession.
In fact, she “epitomised fearlessness, integrity and independence,” the statement said, and was a champion of reform of the criminal justice system.
Seetahal served as a magistrate, state prosecutor, independent senator and defence attorney at law and was also a longstanding criminal-law lecturer at the Hugh Wooding Law School.
